.gc.ca shitcans Wheat Board monopsony

I suppose I always knew that it was possible in theory for the Harper government to do something decent, but now that it’s happened it’s still rather disorienting:

As of August 1, 2012, western Canadian farmers will no longer be forced to sell their wheat and barley through the board.

Instead, for the first time in nearly seven decades, they will be able to negotiate their own deals.

When markets work, it’s largely because prices are able to carry information about the goods and services to which they’re attached.  Nice to see them get a chance to work here.

    Breath-taking. Government giving up control.
