Qualifying at the 2011 Chinese GP

So the obvious story is — holy fuck, Mark Webber out in Q1!  Turns out that fast-wearing Pirelli race tires plus limited tire allocation equals hard decisions to be made.  Webber, for whatever reason, couldn’t get it done — absent insider information which might come in tomorrow I attribute this as much to bad luck as anything else.  But… damn, that’s kind of awesome.  Now everyone’s going to remember this and wonder if they want to risk a precious set of options in Q-fucking-one.

The less obvious story is — holy fuck, both STRs into Q3!  Twin floor: it works, bitches!  Good for STR and I wish them the best of luck in the future.  I’m a bit disappointed in Williams’ performance, as a card-carrying Williams fanboi, and I would’ve expected Kobayashi to beat out the STRs on brass-clanking alone, but perhaps that’ll merely make for a better race.

The even less obvious story is — holy fuck, Paul di Resta made it to Q3!  Good on him, and I hope he and Alguersuari can frighten the Ferraris tomorrow.

Oh yeah, and Button beat Hamilton and Vettel’s on pole again by more than half a fucking second.

I don’t think I’ve ever been excited about a race at Shanghai International Circuit before.  Despite Vettel’s continued dominance this promises to be a fucking amazing season.

An incredible finish for Webber. Something only briefly commented upon, by Vettel, was Button’s accidental pitting during Sebastian’s pit. No one else seemed willing to take it a step farther…did Button slow down Vettel?

I didn’t hear anything about the Stewards reviewing the incident, but the lack of commentary is interesting to me.
