Car porn: 190E DTM hillclimb and C9 at Le Mans

Having just finished Simon McBeath’s Competition Car Aerodynamics I’m looking a bit askance at this fellow’s rear wing*, but holy fuck is old DTM equipment awesome:

While I’m on the subject of awesome-sounding Mercedes engines, here’s a bit of rather contemporary video pr0n of the Sauber-Mercedes C9 winning at Le Mans for the first time in 1989:

Enjoy!

* Wings generate downforce by inducing low pressure beneath them and high pressure above them.  If you’re running two stacked wings one closely below the other, how do you expect simultaneously to achieve low pressure (for the top wing) and high pressure (for the bottom wing) in the rather small interstitial space between the two?  Anyone?  Bueller?  Thought not.
