Steadfast defender of law and order vs. soap bubble

It’s a scary word.  Sexual assault.  Assault with a deadly weapon.  Aggravated assault. It conveys violence and trauma, jagged wounds and mortal danger.  And now, at least in Toronto, soap bubbles.

Soap bubbles?

Yes, really.

We have seen police charge everything from flatulence to a hug to a pillow attack as assault. However, this Toronto officer tells a young woman that if one of her bubbles touches his uniform, he will arrest her for assault. She is later shown being arrested.

(The video being referenced is available at the original link.)

I’m having a hard time stretching my mind around soap bubbles as weapons.  I guess maybe the soap emulsion might be contaminated with HIV or Ebola or Hep C, and if a bubble bursts against a mucous membrane it could lead to infection.  Wait a minute; why are the walls pastel colours?  Why is my forearm outlined in black?  HOLY SHIT I’M IN A SPIDERMAN COMIC!

Seriously, Toronto PD?  Is this the best you can do?

I’m sure it has nothing to do with assault. “Protect and serve”? Yeah, right. Assault’s just a good excuse for cops to use when they want to show who’s *really* the servant.

I my perfect world, this man would be called (and thought of as) a pussy by every other man in his vicinity for the rest of his life. Unfortunately I see daily that we do not live in that world.
